Lodge Catering : Sustainability

Lodge Catering are currently working towards BS8901 Sustainability in Event Management. In doing so the following points are all important to us and are all being worked upon.

1. food recycling

Much as we try and keep food waste to a minimum in the first instance it is an inevitable by product of production and the variety within the events we run, therefore Lodge Catering is extremely proud to announce that we recycle 100% of our food waste and have done since September 2009. This includes all cooked food items left over from events and raw food items (vegetable, meat, fish and used oils) generated at both of our kitchens.

2. Seasonal Menus and organic

We are happy to supply organic food on any event, but understand that the cost that this inevitably involves does not make it a practical alternative in every case. If you would like to know more then please ask and we are always happy to quote. Organic food, by it's very nature means that a seasonal menu will be followed. Our dinner menus are all seasonal by default.

3. fairtrade and Rainforest Alliance

Lodge Catering are pleased to support the Fairtrade and Rainforest Alliance movements. All of the tea, coffee and sugar served on all of our events is covered by one or other scheme.

4. carbon Neutral water

Lodge Catering stock a Carbon Neutral water and are happy to supply it on any event be it in a large or small bottle, glass or plastic (please see recycling and biopackaging).

5. recycling

Lodge Catering operate a policy of recycling all of our glass and cardboard and plastics. Lodge halved their waste to landfill in the six months between March and September 2010 through a programme of active waste management and a push to recycling.

6. Freerange

All of the eggs we purchase are Class A Free Range.

7. Biopackaging

When asked for disposables Lodge Catering only supply:
- Cups that are 100% biodegradable with a plant based (PLA) lining
- Paperboard hot food containers that are recyclable and made from renewable resources
- Wooden disposable cutlery that is 100% compostable and made from renewable resources
- Sandwich boxes that are 100% compostable and made from renewable resources

- Small “plastic” water bottles and “plastic” food containers are all corn starch based and 100% biodegradable
